Lessons

"I'm doing this for you. It's in your best interests."

"But I hate it, I just want to go straight to school."

"Me and your Mother are giving you opportunities that we never had, this will give you a future."

"Mum says that I don't have to do it if I don’t want."

"Bloody hell I thought I told her to… Look Fran Dyer I don't care what your Mother says you are going and that's it."

"I'll go but I don't have to play, I'll just sit around and wait for Jan to pick me up for school."

"Fine, you know what? I don't care anymore. If you don't want to go you won't. I'll take you to school now."

"I'll be two hours early!"

"And I'll be late for work. But little missy doesn't want to go to the four hundred pound a month tennis training session. She doesn't care about her future, she doesn't care about what her parents have gone through to get this spot at the club."

"Dad you're acting like a child. I just don't want to play tennis. I never did, you said that I should, you said it's like an investment. I like maths and science and stuff, I hate sports."

"Don't talk to me like that! Ok from now on you choose your own path, you'll get no help from me you ungrateful child. This is it, you've brought this on yourself.

---------------------------------------------

"Well done Fran. As headmaster of the school I am proud to present you with the award for getting the highest score in the science finals. And wish you the best of luck with the scholarship you've been awarded. Let us hope you do as well at university as you have done here."

"Miss Dyer we would love to offer you a role in the research dept of the university. With such an excellent career you had as a student with us it would best a great loss for the faculty if you talents were taken off elsewhere. We really do look forward to some of the work you put forward to us in the interview yesterday. We see great things ahead of you."

"And now I'd like to present the youngest ever member of the board, Dr Dyer. Fran will be helping us with many of the upcoming changes in the college while at the same time attempting to keep all the exceptional research going in the Physics Department. A round of applause for Dr Dyer please."

"And the Nobel Prize for Physics goes to Dr Dyer for outstanding work in the field over the last five years."

----------------------------------------

"Dad I'm sorry but with Mum gone and my work load I really think it's the best option. It's the best thing for your future."

"Franny please, you have plenty of room at yours. You wouldn't notice I was there, I'd look after myself."

"Come on Dad we know that isn't true. You can't cook or clean after yourself, Mum always did that for you. You'd struggle with the stairs and the kids make so much noise and mess. They'd always be under your feet."

"But I really don't want to go."

"Dad I don't think you realise the effort that me and John Have gone through on your behalf here. We've managed to get to a room in a very exclusive home, very exclusive. I don't think you appreciate the money and time that has gone into this. You're being very ungrateful."

"Franny, if this is about… I thought we'd got over this…"

"Dad this is about what is best for you. We'll come and see you as often as we can. Maybe you can come and stay over every now and then once you have settled in. But our decision is final. I really think you should be more mature about this."
